Start with the recipient, not the award rank. Korea’s 2026 tourism-souvenir winners range from brass tableware and patterned fans to seasoning, textiles, stationery, and small accessories, so the useful question is what this person will actually use.
The Korea Tourism Organization’s final-results notice, released on August 28, names one Presidential Award, two Prime Minister’s Awards, three ministerial awards, and 19 other winners and special prizes. Brass tableware sits beside fans, seasonings, body-care objects, textiles, stationery, magnets, and a railway-themed key ring.
A convincing gift carries a specific place, craft, ingredient, motif, or practice. After that connection is clear, check whether the object will be used and whether it can survive the journey home.
The top three awards
The highest awards favor objects with a clear origin. The Presidential Award went to Baudeogi’s Brilliant Stage, Unfolded on the Dining Table, bangjja brass tableware shaped around the fan associated with Baudeogi and Anseong’s namsadang performance tradition. The Prime Minister’s Awards went to Korea’s Gyeol Collection, a set of patterned fans, and Jejudasi Flower Anchovy Jeotgal Powder, a Jeju seasoning.
Reporting based on KTO’s announcement says 1,358 entries competed, the largest field in the contest’s history. The size of the field explains the competition; the award rank alone does not settle a travel purchase.
The object still has to speak for itself. A regional report on Korea’s Gyeol Collection traces its patterns to Hwaeomsa dancheong, Jirisan, the Seomjin River, sansuyu, camellia, and bamboo. Those named places and motifs give the buyer a specific story to explain instead of relying on the vague word “traditional.”
| Award example | Korean connection | Everyday function | Buying question |
|---|---|---|---|
| Baudeogi-inspired bangjja tableware | Anseong performance heritage and a fan-shaped form | Dining and serving | Check weight, care instructions, and safe packing. |
| Korea’s Gyeol patterned fans | Gurye landscapes, plants, bamboo, and dancheong motifs | Cooling, display, or gifting | Confirm the specific design and maker’s current sales page. |
| Jeju flower-anchovy jeotgal powder | Jeju food ingredient and local flavor | Seasoning | Check ingredients and the destination country’s food-import rules. |
The three winners serve very different recipients: someone who cooks or hosts, someone who would carry or display a fan, and someone who uses Korean seasoning.

Picture where the gift will go after the trip. A cook may use seasoning or tableware; a commuter may carry a key ring or small accessory; someone interested in design may prefer a fan, textile, or desk object.
Some objects become easier to explain with a little context. Bangjja tableware connects naturally with Korea’s shared-table customs, while the Gyeongju National Museum guide shows how material and function help identify historical Korean objects.
Who selected the special prizes
Beyond the six government awards, Lotte Duty Free and Hyundai Department Store each selected three products. Four more prizes came from the Korea Heritage Service, the National Museum Foundation of Korea, the Korea Craft and Design Foundation, and the Korea Tourism Association.
A retailer and a heritage institution are selecting for different reasons. The retail prizes highlight products suited to a commercial setting; museum and craft organizations can place more weight on the relationship to a historic form. KTO does not state that the winners received permanent shelf space from the organizations that selected them.
The retailer prizes favored compact goods such as tea, stickers, desserts, gonggi pieces, magnets, and a metropolitan-rail key ring. Heritage and cultural organizations selected wearable or decorative interpretations of tiger paintings, mother-of-pearl, Seoul’s magpie, and hojakdo.
The selected scent bottles, watch straps, games, and transit-themed objects all use named motifs or places. Check the product description for that source before buying; the visual reference may not be obvious to the recipient.
An award is not a stock list
KTO names the winners but provides no unified price list, live inventory, or overseas-delivery coverage.
Before paying: match the exact product and maker to the award list, open the seller’s current checkout page, and enter the destination country. Food, alcohol, cosmetics, and liquids add airline and customs questions.
The 2026 Korea Tourism Souvenir Fair is scheduled for November 20–22 at DDP Art Hall 1 and 2 in Seoul. The winning products are due to be displayed there, making the fair a place to inspect the objects and record maker names; stock and versions still depend on each seller.
Match the gift to the journey home
A compact textile or paper object is forgiving when you have several cities left on the itinerary. A brass dining set may be the more memorable purchase, but it asks for luggage space and careful packing. Ceramics introduce the same calculation with a different failure mode. If you are already close to your baggage allowance, admiration is not a transport plan.
For an edible gift, check whether the recipient will use it and whether the destination allows it. Ingredient labels matter most for products containing animal ingredients, alcohol, seeds, or fresh food.
The list also includes a hand-and-body wash presented through a celadon reference and a ceramic gua sha based on the Pensive Bodhisattva. Check skin sensitivity and liquid limits for the wash; protect the ceramic tool from breakage.
At checkout
Ask the seller to identify the exact maker and product from KTO’s list. A description such as “a fan using patterns from Gurye’s landscape and temple decoration” is specific enough to pass on with the gift; “traditional Korean style” is not.
Confirm the current price, stock, returns, and delivery terms. Then check the practical risk that applies to this item: weight or breakage for brass and ceramics, border rules for food and alcohol, ingredients and leakage for cosmetics, or construction quality for textiles and accessories.
